Train AI Like
A New Hire

Most people quit on AI after one bad answer. The ones who win treat it like a new hire they train over time. Here's the 3-level setup and the prompts that make it compound into an employee that gets smarter every week.

MIT found that 95% of companies using AI get basically nothing out of it, and it's almost never the model. The real reason is the learning gap: they never actually trained it. They typed a vague prompt, got a mediocre answer, and quit, like firing an employee an hour into their first day.

The fix is a mindset shift. Stop expecting AI to be an expert on day one. Treat it like a new hire you onboard over a few weeks. This guide gives you the exact way to do that: where the training lives, the 3-level setup from beginner to advanced, and the one habit that makes it compound.

The Shift Onboard It Like An Employee

A new hire knows nothing about your business on day one. You don't fire them after an hour, you train them: your goals, your brand voice, your systems, your workflows. A few weeks in, they run real work without you explaining every detail. AI is exactly the same.

Start by actually onboarding it. Instead of a one-line prompt, run an interview so it learns you. Paste this:

The onboarding prompt

I want you to work like a trained team member for my business, not a generic chatbot. Before you help me with anything, interview me one question at a time until you're confident you understand my business, my goals, my customers, my brand voice, and how I like work delivered. Ask about what I do, who I serve, my tone, my offers, my biggest priorities right now, and the tasks I'd most want off my plate. When you're done, summarize what you learned so I can correct anything.
Where It Lives The 3 Levels, Beginner To Advanced

All that training has to live somewhere, or you start over every new chat. Pick the level that matches where you are. You can climb later.

Level 1 · Beginner

A Claude Project

Create a Project in Claude, add your instructions, and upload your files (brand guide, past work, SOPs). Everything you teach it stays in one place and carries across every chat in the project. This is where almost everyone should start.

Level 2 · Intermediate

Turn Repeat Work Into Skills

Anything you do every week, document the steps once and have Claude turn it into a Skill it runs on command. Claude's built-in Skill Creator will basically build it for you, just describe the workflow and it writes the skill. Now your processes run the same way every time.

Level 3 · Advanced

Claude Code + Agents

When you want to go all in, move into Claude Code. Give it a folder with a CLAUDE.md file that holds all your context (it reads it automatically), and build agents that do multi-step work for you. This is the technical end, the deepest version of the same idea.

The Compounding Habit Make It Critique Itself

This is the one habit that makes everything above compound. At the end of every working session, have the AI reflect on what happened and update its own instructions. Most people never do this, they get an okay answer, close the tab, and start from scratch tomorrow. Don't. Run this:

The feedback-loop prompt (end of every session)

Reflect on this whole conversation. Where did you miss what I actually wanted, and what did I have to correct? Then rewrite and update your project instructions so next time you get it right the first time. Add any preferences, rules, or context you learned about me and my business. Keep it tight, only the things that would change your output.

Do this for a couple of weeks and your AI stops being a chatbot. It becomes an employee that genuinely gets smarter every single week, because it's writing its own training from your real feedback.

Don't boil the ocean

Don't try to train it on your whole business at once. Pick the one task you repeat most, get it running well, then add the next. That's how the 5% who actually get results do it, one workflow at a time.
