Robinhood just let AI agents trade inside your account. Here's exactly how it works, the safety settings to turn on before anything, and the 3 ways I'd actually use it, without handing over my money and walking away.
On May 27, 2026, Robinhood launched a beta feature called Agentic Trading. You can now connect an AI agent straight to your Robinhood account and let it trade for you.
Before you do anything: this is powerful and genuinely risky. Robinhood itself says these agents can make mistakes, misread your instructions, and do things you didn't expect. So this is the honest version, how it works, what to lock down first, and how I'd actually use it.
This is not financial advice. AI agents are not financial advisors. Everything below is about using the tool carefully, not about what to buy.
You create a separate, pre-funded account and connect an external AI agent to it (through a standard called MCP). From there:
· The agent can see your whole portfolio for context, but it can only trade with the cash in that one separate account, your main holdings stay out of its reach.
· You get a notification on every single trade it makes.
· It's in beta and currently stocks only (options, crypto, and more are planned).
The key idea
The separate account is a fence. The AI can look at everything but can only spend what's inside the fence. That's the whole safety model, so how much you put in that account is your risk setting.
Treat that separate account like a sandbox. Put in an amount you'd be completely fine losing, nothing more. That single decision caps your downside.
Keep trade notifications on so you see every move in real time. And don't let it run fully on its own from day one, start with you approving trades (last section) before you ever give it more autonomy.
Then use the sandbox to actually watch and learn how AI thinks about a real market with real stakes. That learning is worth more than any single trade.
One of the safest, most useful things to do first: have it look at your whole portfolio (which it can read) and tell you where you're overexposed, no trading required.
Ask the agent (or any AI with your holdings pasted in):
Copy this prompt
Audit my portfolio for risk and overexposure. Here are my holdings: [paste your positions and rough allocation] Tell me: 1. Where am I overexposed, to a single stock, sector, or theme? 2. What's my rough risk level overall (conservative / balanced / aggressive) and why? 3. What concentration risks would hurt most if one thing dropped 30%? 4. What questions should I be asking that I'm probably not? Be direct. Don't tell me what to buy, just show me where my risk actually is.
Reminder
This is analysis, not advice. Use it to understand your own risk, then make your own calls.
The second use: let it do the reading. Have it pull and summarize the analyst reports and surface the real opportunities and risks, so you don't have to wade through all of it yourself.
Use this to turn a pile of research into a clear briefing:
Copy this prompt
Act as my research analyst. For the following stocks or sectors: [list them] Summarize, in plain English: 1. What recent analyst reports and earnings are actually saying, bull case and bear case. 2. The real opportunities, and how confident the consensus is. 3. The biggest risks people are glossing over. 4. What would have to be true for the bull case to play out. Cite where each point comes from. Flag anything that's speculation vs. established. No hype.
The third move, and the one I'd start with before any autonomy: set it up so the AI suggests trades and you approve them, instead of letting it run on its own from day one.
You get the leverage of an agent that watches the market and proposes moves, but you keep the final decision. Once you've watched it for a while and trust how it reasons, you can decide how much more freedom to give it, if any.
