How To Set Up
Health In ChatGPT

Connect your medical records and Apple Health, then build one AI health timeline. Here's the exact setup and the prompt I use.

SourceOpenAI: Launching Health in ChatGPT

Your blood work, your visits, your sleep, your meds, your vaccines. Right now it's scattered across a dozen portals and apps, and you remember almost none of it. That's the problem this fixes.

ChatGPT can now connect to your medical records and Apple Health, in a private Health section with its own history. Most people are using it to explain one lab result at a time. The real unlock is connecting everything into one timeline that actually spots the trend. Here's the exact setup, then the prompt I use.

Step 0Check You Can Use It

Before you start, make sure it's available to you. This rolled out to the public on July 23 and is arriving on accounts over a few weeks, so if you don't see it yet, check back.

Who Gets It Right Now

United States, age 18+, on Free, Go, Plus, or Pro. It works on the ChatGPT web app and iPhone app (not Android yet). Connecting Apple Health has to be done on your iPhone, since that's where Apple Health lives. No waitlist, the Health section just appears when it's ready for you.

SetupConnect Your Data

The whole thing takes a few minutes. Here's the flow:

  1. Open Health from the ChatGPT sidebar (you may need to tap More to see it).
  2. Tap Connect Health, or Get Started.
  3. Choose a source: Apple Health or Medical Records (it links Epic and Oracle patient portals, plus One Medical and Function Health).
  4. Sign in and grant permission. For medical records you log into your hospital or portal account. For Apple Health on iPhone you allow Health data access.
  5. Wait for it to sync. A few minutes, longer if you have a big history.

Once it's connected on your phone, you can do the heavy reading and analysis on a computer browser too. Your Health chats stay in their own tab, separate from your normal ChatGPT.

The PromptBuild Your AI Health Timeline

This is what you actually came for. Paste this into your Health tab once your data is connected. It builds the timeline, then answers the questions worth asking.

AI Health Timeline Prompt
AI HEALTH TIMELINE, paste into ChatGPT's Health tab after you connect your data You have access to my connected medical records and Apple Health. Help me understand my own health. Work only from my connected data. If something isn't in my records, say so instead of guessing, and remind me you are not a doctor. STEP 1 - BUILD MY TIMELINE. Pull everything into one timeline: lab results, diagnoses, doctor visits, procedures, medications (with start and stop dates), vaccines, and the trends in my sleep, heart rate, activity, and workouts. Organize it by date, newest first, grouped by category. STEP 2 - WHAT CHANGED. Tell me what has meaningfully changed in my health over the last two years. Call out anything trending the wrong way, anything that improved, and anything out of range. STEP 3 - LABS OVER TIME. For my most recent labs, compare each marker to my previous results and to the normal range. Tell me which ones moved, by how much, and which are worth a conversation with my doctor. STEP 4 - SINCE MY LAST PHYSICAL. Summarize everything that has happened since my last annual physical in plain English, in under one page. STEP 5 - QUESTIONS FOR MY DOCTOR. Give me a short, specific list of questions to bring to my next appointment, based on what you see, ranked by what looks most important to ask. Keep it plain and calm. For anything concerning, tell me to confirm it with my doctor rather than acting on it myself.

Do This Safely

ChatGPT is not a doctor and doesn't replace one. Connected records can be incomplete or out of date, and AI can still get things wrong, so confirm anything important against your real records and your doctor. Your health data is walled off from your normal chats and, per OpenAI, isn't used to train models or target ads. You can disconnect a source or delete your Health memories anytime.
